Summertime . . . Almost!

The boys have 3 more days of school including today. I think mostly fun is on the agenda for these last few days. You would think I would be celebrating sleeping in but being super smart I scheduled Maxwell's swim lessons at 8:30 so I still have to wake up early until we get back from vacation. Our vacation makes it so I can't sign up the other boys for swim lessons at all this year. We only have 2 weeks school free after we get back. Oh the joys of modified year round.

I go through cycles of elation and heartache when I think about Maxwell going to school this year. I am really happy for him and he is beyond ready but I will be lonely especially while running boring errands. Even if he was complaining about the boring errands his presence made them not only take longer but also made them more fun.

Speaking of boring errands, Max and I have to go get the car inspected today.

Friday night was Xander's Summative. Project group for the final quarter was all about the weather, Maxwell's favorite subject. Xander and peers were all meteorologists. We also enjoyed 2 dancing and singing numbers. Nothing is better or funnier than watching a bunch of 7 and 8 year olds dance and sing. It was a really happy moment. I love Xander's teachers.

Afterwards we went out to Jilly's American Grill. Not even a week ago we made a plan that we would not eat out until our vacation, and we have already broken that plan 2 1/2 times. At Jilly's there is a TV for every table and Jared really wanted to watch the game. The D-backs won and it was a really exciting game so eating out was totally worth it. Plus we had a coupon for $10 off and I did not have to clean up afterwards.

I don't know if I wrote it here but when I initially signed Maxwell up for swim lessons he was pretty upset. He told me he already knew how to swim and besides he has goggles so he doesn't need lessons. His attitude about swim lessons really changed and we have been hearing non-stop from Maxwell about how he is starting swim lessons on Monday. Yesterday at noon Maxwell had to get his towel and swimsuit ready. This morning Maxwell told Jared the list of steps he was doing to get ready for swim lessons. Despite all of this excitement Maxwell had a near meltdown at the pool. He has a lot of social anxiety mostly with not knowing exactly what to do. He likes to have rules and directions for everything. He even gives them to himself when Jared and I aren't providing enough. He lost his class on the walk over from the meeting area to the pool. Not surprising considering how hectic and crowded it was. I was behind him and when he yelled for me his face was all red and his voice was breaking. Fortunately Kindergarten provides tons of structure for the kiddos so I think he will be okay there.

Don't mistake his need for structure as him being submissive and docile. In situations (like at home) where he feels completely safe he has a major attitude. And he isn't quiet about it.
