The Crack
Jared found a really nice structural engineer through a friend of a friend of a friend. He was helpful and willing to do the inspection for under $400. He determined that the brick beams were structurally safe but not structurally sound. We would have to replace them in the long term (around 10 years from now), but not immediately. He also checked out the foundation and structure of the house. He determined it to be in normal condition. He is going to provide us with a carefully worded certificate. Hopefully this will cover the appraiser's concerns. We don't really want to pay for a supposed "mold" specialist to come out as well. Usually you only pay for a mold specialist if you have visible mold, a major leak/flood, or a musty smell to the house. We don't have any.
It is looking more and more like we are going to have a hotel/storage adventure in between homes. I found an affordable place near the boys' school. It would have a kitchenette and two beds! Hopefully this just proves to be more of the bumps in purchasing a home and we will succeed.
When we put the offer on the house I prayed that whatever was best for our family would be what would happen. I only wanted to win the bidding war if that was what was best. I trust that for whatever reason this crazy experience is whatever is best, but it will only feel worth it if we get the house in the end.

Xander says the before picture on a hair restoration infomercial looks just like Grandpa Anderson.
Jared thinks Elijah is crazy: only kids and tourists go swimming in double-digit temperatures.
Elijah is trying to convince his dad to go swimming too.
Maxwell is half swimming, half shivering on the deck.
